CEMENT SUPPLY
WHAT İS PORTLAND CEMENT ?:
Portland cement is usually gray and of powdery material. In preparation of it, firstly a certain amount of limestone, clay and some aluminum and ferrit oxides, if required, should be moulded to obtain a given chemical composition which should be grounded thereafter. The substance thus obtained is named farin and it is baked upto 1450°C in a rotary furnace. The cement clinker thus obtained is, however, much too coarse to be able to react with water at a reasonable rate. In order also to achieve a favourable course of hardening when water is added to the cement composition, some gypsum is often added to the clinker during fine grinding. To the Portland cement thus obtained some minerals may also be added to form new types of cements for different applications.
Marketing of Cement:
The cement in the plants are stored in silos and reaches to the end users in two forms:
* Bagged cement: It is supplied in speacial paper bags of 50 kg in Turkey. (The quantity is supposed to be the heaviest amount for an adult).
* Bulk cement: It is directly transported to the fields of concrete preparation or construction sites through special containers(silobas).
The cement must be kept dry and unexposed to air. The cement bags should be kept indoors and the storage of the bags shouldnt prevent the circulation of air.

Cement Types: A variety of cements can be produced according to Turkish and European standards in effect.
If the clinker is containing calcium sulfate with max %0-5 mineral additives, then the product is called portland cement.
With some additives and and with the use of white clay and some other additives, white cement can also be obtained, provided that clinker proportions are not distorted.
There a lot of types of Portland Cements containing mineral additives higher than %5.
The standardized cements and their initials in our country are as follows:
PÇ : Portland Cement
SDÇ : Sulfate-resistant Cement
BPÇ : White Portland Cement
PLÇ : Portland Limestone Cement
PKÇ : Portland Composite Cement
KZÇ : Composite Cement
Cement is categorized according to its strength values. The symbols indicating the types may be provided with other figures indicating the amount of additives and numbers showing the time of earlier strength times.
Cement strength is usually indicated by one of the figures: 32.5, 42.5, 52.5. These figures corresponds to the strength values in terms of N/mm2 or MPa within 28 days. The letter R indicates that the product has an earlier strength and it will reach to the standard strength value within 2 days.
