Intellectual Property and Patent Protection
As the exclusive owner of the innovative Tap & Go locking technology, Yekalon has the exclusive right to authorize this locking technology to distributors and manufacturers in North America and around the world. A historic legal victory for Yekalon in a US International Trade Commission investigation in 2007 cleared the way for Yekalon to sell the product royalty-free or license it at a very competitive royalty rate. To date, Yekalon is one of the few global industry leaders -and the only one in China -that holds the patent for the core technology in flooring products \' coupling systems.
In a lawsuit brought by the Canada Border Services Agency (CBSA), Yekalon won a 0% anti-dumping duty. It is the only Chinese company to achieve this result.
Vertical Integration Strategy
In another move to make the company more competitive, Yekalon moved from using other laminate factories as OEMs to vertically integrate its operations. After the purchase of an HDF production factory, Yekalon began to purchase forests and grow the very trees that were the source of their HDF production. Since HDF is the primary cost factor in laminate flooring, the company now has its own tree sources to ensure that supply is plentiful and costs of goods sold remains competitive. Yekalon is also careful to continually re-plant trees to replenish its supply. Since many companies are chasing scarce forest resources, this business strategy of vertical integration distinguishes Yekalon in China and internationally.\"
