[Sell] Sack Gabions |
Sack Gabions consist of a single mesh panel made of hexagonal woven wire Mesh Type 80, commonly referred as double twisted wire mesh (Figure 1 and Table 1). Sack Gabions are filled with rocks at the project site to form a flexible, permeable and monolithic structure. This structure is used for emergency and river training in works when local conditions require fast installation, or when the water does not allow easy access to the site or when underwater installation is necessary. Filling and Lacing The Sack Gabion is assembled by rolling the mesh panel into a cylindrical shape and lacing the overlapped edges (Figure 4). Once one end of the cylinder is tied and laced closely, the Sack Gabion is filled with rocks ranging between 100 mm and 200 mm or any other material of suitable size. The range in sizes maybe from 80mm. 5% oversize or 5% undersize is also allowable, provided it is not placed at the exposed surface. In all cases, oversize rock should not be larger than 300 mm and the undersize rock should not be smaller than 100 mm. Rocks should be hard, angular, round and durable. So they shall not disintegrate on expose to water or weathering during the life of the structure. Care should be taken when placing the stone to ensure that the PVC coating on the Sack Gabion is not damaged. To expedite installation, two or more Sack Gabion can be tied together before installation. About lacing wire, lacing operation can be made by using certain tools available from our offices together with stainless steel rings. The material used in the manufacture of Sack Gabions is heavily zinc coated steel wire. If necessary, a PVC coating is extruded over the galvanized wire to provide additional protection in aggressive environments. The PVC coating has a nominal thickness of 0,5 mm. The tolerances of mesh and wire are shown in Table 1 and Table 2. The end of the mesh has steel rods inserted during the manufacturing process to drive closing during installation. Dimensions and sizes of galvanized and PVC coated Sack Gabions are shown in Table 3. When specifying Sack Gabions in the tender documents or bill of quantities, please refer to Table 4. Please refer to the following specifications: Diameter: 3mm Tensile strength: 156-178 kg/mm2 Spacing of the rings or loops must not exceed that shown in Figure 5B.

[Sell] Welded Gabions |
Welded mesh gabions are filled on site with hard and durable stones to form mass of gravity retaining structures. Due to their inflexibility, welded gabions are generally not considered suitable in areas susceptible to differential settlement, or in water courses. Our welded gabions are available in a variety of wire diameters and unit sizes to meet project requirements. In common with all gabions during installation, all welded units need internal bracing wires to be overfilled to allow for settlement of the granular rock fill. Gabions are delivered on site in folded condition (flat-packed) on a pallet. All verical joints are factory fitted which increases the quality and speed of assembly on site. Depending upon the configuration of the Gabion, the base and lid panels are connected with 1 horizontal and helical. The accesories (bracing ties and joining pins) are prefabricated and adjusted to the Gabion type. To close the base and lids additional spirals are neccessary. Take a Gabion from a pallet and cut the securing brace. Lift the accesories and pull the Gabion untill full length is reached. Close the base helically and fold the ends 90° inwardly. Now the spirals won't detach when moving and turning the Gabion. This will also prevent sharp end and injuries. This can be done with standard pliers. Now turn over the Gabion. For large lengths, the Gabions should be connected as to form a monolithic structure. Prefabricated joining pins are provided for each Gabion. Simply grasp the 2 spirals then push them into each other. Place the joining pin into the section and push it downwardly. Care must be taken that the head of the pin faces should be inward. This must be done for security reasons and will prevent vandalism. The joining must be done at both sides. As to prevent heavy deformation caused by filling the Gabions, bracing ties are included in each Gabion. Depending upon the height of the gabion, these are placed at 1/3 + 2/3 or 1/2 of the height. Now start filling the first part of the Gabion. Bracing ties are placed 4 meshes from the sides and around the weld. If not, the weld can break or the bracing tie can move. Repeat this principle untill the Gabions are fully filled. After filling the Gabion, the lid can be closed. Use the included spirals and attach the lid at every edge including the diaphragm panel. Also twist the ends inwardly for safety reasons. When superpositioning Gabions, the horizontal connections must be done. This is usually carried out with the help of clips or lacing wire.

[Sell] Gabion Wall |
This Gabion Wall has been designed and constructed to retain the site boundary along the length of a new access road to a new industrial development. The gabions were filled with crushed concrete and faced with 6g stone fill. Gabion walling is being used to construct an access track along the length of an existing train station. The access track will be used by a pilling rig that will be required to place new foundation when the existing station is demolished and the new railway station constructed. The gabion wall is constructed both sides of railway line and has to be constructed and backfilled in 4m lengths. This limits the chance of slipage to the embankment. |

[Sell] Gabion Baskets |
Gabions are rectangular cages made of hexagonal double-twist wire mesh filled with appropriately sized rock or quarry stone. The wire used is a mild tensile steel wire, class A galvanized to SABS 675 of 1993. The gabions are sub-divided into cells by inserting diaphragms which are mesh panels with the same characteristics as the external sides, spaced 1m from each other to give the structure strength and facilitate it's speedy construction. The galvanized wire, before being woven, can be coated with a special PVC (polyvinyl chloride) coating 0.5mm thick. This additional coating gives full protection from corrosion in marine or heavily polluted environments. Gabions are used in many situations including the stabilization of earth movement and erosion, river control, reservoirs, canal refurbishment, landscaping and retaining walls. They can be manufactured in welded mesh or woven wire. Gabions are compartmentalized rectangular containers of galvanized steel hexagonal wire mesh that are filled with stone. While maintaining sufficient strength to contain the stone used as a fill, gabions must be able to settle, twist, and conform to channel and foundation shifts. In order to meet the various needs, gabions must have the following features: · Hexagonal mesh pattern critical points · Double twist to avoid unraveling · Reinforcing wires woven into corners to reinforce critical points · A diaphragm securely attached at the base that will prevent the shifting of some and reinforce the gabio. THE ADVANTAGES 1. FLEXIBLE Superior to rigid type structures. The hexagonal mesh construction permits natural adjustment to varying conditions of earth settlement without causing fracture or collapse of the structure. 2. DURABLE Gaps between the stones silt up naturally as time passes. Silting supports the growth of grass and plants which serve as a bonding agent for the stone. 3. PERMEABLE A Gabion structure allows water to pass through, water pressure cannot build up behind it and the structure is continuously drained. 4. STRONG The flexibility of the Gabion structure provides the inherent strength to withstand and dissipate pressures exerted by water and earth masses. 5. ECONOMICAL Filling materials are usually found on or near the site. No structural maintenance is needed and foundation work is usually unnecessary. 6. NATURAL APPEARANCE Natural stone makes the structure aesthetically pleasing especially when subsequent vegetation growth takes place. 7. SIMPLE Unskilled labour can be used for quick assembly. 8. MAINTENANCE Gabion structures are easily maintained using additional mesh or grouting. 9. FUNCTIONABLE Once the structure is built there is no waiting period – it functions immediately. 10. EXTENDABLE Extensions are simple. Additional units are simply attached to the existing ones. The gabion wire diameter can range from 2mm to 8mm and the gabion basket can either be welded or woven, galvanised or plastic coated, depending on application. Baskets come in flat pack form and are assembled on site. They can be used in a range of applications from small domestic projects to large industrial schemes. The infill to the baskets is usually locally sourced stone ranging from 200mm - 100mm. Hand facing ensures that the wall has good cosmetic appearance. Gabion advantages include flexibility, durability, strength, permeability, economy, and landscaping. Gabions have a wide range of uses, we have listed the most common ones below for your information. Contact us for any information you may need in regards to any of these uses. Mass-gravity walls,Reinforced soil walls,Terrace walls,River canal lining,River training structures e.g. Groynes,Gabion weir or dam structures,Roadway culvert in or outlet structures,Low-level or Irish crossings,Longitudinal river structures
